Howdy friends, I just wanted to get with you on our precious club and dance activity. I know it’s been a tough haul and we all are pretty much frustrated beyond belief! But life goes on and we need to ensure our square dance activity does too! We have been trying our best to come up with ideas that will help us through this tough covid-19 pandemic. So far we have come up with a couple to start with, that we all can do. While we are patiently awaiting for the return of our precious square dance activities, let’s try to maintain some basic skills by reviewing calls so when we can get back to dancing it won’t be so difficult to get started. When that time comes we can all throw a huge DANCE PARTY! To accommodate our dancing review we have set up 2 separate ways to help encourage each other and our mental dance heath too. In the club newsletter we will come up with a monthly call or a family of calls for us to review and look at. On the club website we will have those calls plus maybe some weekly calls each week for our review. You will even be able to email your club caller to ask a few questions on the call(s) if need be (firstname.lastname@example.org). So let’s start by taking a look at some of those calls while we wait, nothing too difficult, just something to keep our mental dance health fluid.
How about Starting with what I call the well-rounded family - Circle Left & Circle Right. Now we can Circle Left or Circle Right with 8 people, 4 people or even 2 people. We can circle all the way round, ¾ ways, ½ ways or even a ¼ ways. With 8 dancers we can start from a squared set (a static square at home) or a circle of 8 facing in. With 4 or 2 dancers we can start from facing couples, facing lines of 4 or even from a formation we call
“8 Chain Thru”. Click on the bold underlined words to check out what we mean, how it looks and how it is done.
Dancers join hands with those directly beside/next to them, walk forward 3 steps, pause, walk backwards 3 steps, and pause.
Yes this is fairly simple but there are several starting positions where you can start from. Click on the bold underlined words to check out what we mean, how it looks and how it is done.
